Apple Creek School first graders Alison Krein, left, and Clayton Backhaus make a milk run for their classmates prior to lunch at the country school east of Bismarck on Friday morning. Today the students, teachers and friends of Apple Creek School are celebrating its 130th anniversary at the school located on 93rd Street and south of Old Highway 10. The celebration begins with a meal at 5:30 p.m. followed by a live auction. Inflatable games will be available for kids. "And years and years ago this function started as a cake auction and those cakes had to be baked by the kids' dads," said school secretary Corrine Mees with the school business manager Dottie Longmuir adding "and boy did they have some doozies." Apple Creek School was first opened in 1878.
