Steven Layne, a writer of books for children visited Miller Elementary in Bismarck on Wednesday morning where he read passages from his books as well as spoke of his journey to becoming an author. "He writes fantastic books that get kids interested in all kinds of things," said Jenny Picard, a 6th grade language arts teacher at Northridge Elementary and member of the South Central Reading Council. Layne will be speaking to students at 7 elementary schools while in Bismarck as well as a community literacy event tonight a 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Library in Bismarck. Layne will also be speaking on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Century High School at the annual Young Authors event hosted by the South Central Reading Council. Layne lives in Illinois where he is a college professor.
