Steve Merrill, center, and other supporters of NDPeople.Org, gathered in front of the Federal Building in downtown Bismarck Tuesday morning to hold a rally against the Bush administration's tax breaks, war spending and cuts in program spending. The small tax day rally entitled "Invest in America's Future, Not War In Iraq" highlighted the median income family in North Dakota paid 2,243 in federal income taxes in 2007. Of that figure the top five amounts went to military, 947 health, 496 interest on non-military debt, 230 anti-poverty programs, 194 and 98 on education, training and social services.
