Supreme Court justice Dale Sandstrom spoke at the North Dakota Boy Scouts Annual Report to the Governor on 2-11 at the Wednesday Noon Rotary Club of Bismarck at the Elks Club. Sandstrom gave remarks for Governor John Hoeven who was in Grand Forks attending the funeral of Tom Clifford, the former president of the University of North Dakota. Sandstrom spoke of Scouting issues and announced next year's 100th anniversary will be celebrated June 4-6 in Bismarck on the state capitol grounds. He estimated more than 1000 scouts would be camping on the sprawling capitol grounds for the celebration. Sandstrom also spoke of former governor Ed Schafer's experiences as a Boy Scout in including a visit to the legislature in 1955 when he was called Cub Scout Eddie and gave the Scout oath in the house chamber. Schafer was also a senior patrol leader as a Boy Scout. Bismarck's Noon Rotary Club has hosted the annual Scouting event every year since 1922.
